Thank you, Renaud Oualid of Koid9 / La Vie En Rock Magazine in France for the review of "Outlaw Son". Much appreciated: Review below:
Jerome Mazza / Outlaw Son (Escape Music)
Did you like Steve Walsh's latest album? Then you'll enjoy this one, too. Why? Because this American singer is the same as that of Walsh's album with whom he sings a duet but where especially Steve left him the lead on three tracks "Now Until Forever", “Mercy On Me” and "Winds of War". Moreover, the cover designed by the same Eric Philippe takes elements from that of The Black Butterfly by Steve Walsh and then and above all the compositions are written by Tommy Denander who had done the same on Black Butterfly. We owe the lyrics and melodies to Steve Overland, singer of FM, Shadowland, The Ladder, etc. The two signed a turnkey album where Jerome Mazza (the Pinnacle Point singer) has only to put his voice down, the rhythm pair being Chris Metzger (Sinister Realm) on drums and studio musician Brian J Anthony on bass. 13 songs for 52.36 minutes on the Japanese edition where nothing surprising that we find many similarities with Walsh's album but also in Kansas because Mazza's voice is a mixture of those of Walsh, Greer and Elefante but also musically as hear on the excellent "Dark Side", "Song For The People", and "Streets on Fire" where one would swear that it is Walsh who sings, more by the phrasing than by the timbre, for that matter. In fact the album is a clever mix between American AOR, refrain and/or developments of Kansas the most commercial, all with Seventh Key sauce but where often appears splendid lines of Denander guitar more in the target AOR that interests us here or even more heavy to the Blackfoot on "Undercover Love". The album offers its pearls, one by one, all melodic killings that will please any AOR fan but that will satisfy even more those who are also fans of Kansas because it is impossible not to think about it at one time or another. In short, a treat that this son of outlaw, a well-chosen title for Jerome Mazza who is in the role of the one who walks (with talent) on the platforms of the creators of "People From The South Wind" or "Power". That can't be overlooked. 5/5 stars
